Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2024

At the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, Europe’s leading annual forum on democracy, I spoke on Hong Kong’s democracy movement and the plight of political prisoners. Sharing the stage with global leaders including Hillary Clinton, Ursula von der Leyen, Tsai Ing-wen, Lai Ching-te, Sanna Marin, Masih Alinejad, and Leopoldo Lopez, I called on democratic allies to move from words to action — sanctioning rights abusers, recognising transnational repression, and ending Hong Kong’s special diplomatic privileges — while reminding the world that “the fight for freedom comes at a cost, but Hong Kongers never back down.”
